Microphone Permission Blocked

If your microphone is not working on websites, the most common reason is a permission issue. Modern browsers and operating systems do not allow microphone access by default. If permission is denied, no website can hear your voice, even if the microphone itself is working.

This usually happens after a browser update, a Windows privacy change or when permission was accidentally blocked earlier. In this case, mic test tools load normally but will show no sound activity.

Example Scenario

Sometimes you visit a mic test website and start speaking but nothing happens as there is no sound wave, no input movement and no error message. The microphone yet working in apps like Zoom or Discord because the correct input device is selected with permission enabled, but no permission allowed in the browser settings.

This confirms the microphone is working, but permission is blocked at the system or browser level. Allowing access will fix the issue immediately.
