Outdated Audio Drivers
Audio drivers allow your operating system to communicate with your microphone. Your microphone may stop working even though it is properly connected when these drivers are outdated, missing or corrupted.
Driver issues may appear after Windows updates or system changes. In such cases, mic test tools load correctly but fail to detect any sound input. Updating the audio drivers usually resolves the problem.
Example Scenario
Your microphone was working fine yesterday, but today it no longer detects sound. Permissions are allowed, the correct input device is selected and the mic is not muted. Despite all of these, no audio activity appears on mic test websites.
This typically happens when the audio driver becomes outdated or incompatible. Updating the driver will restore the microphone functionality.
Solution: Update Audio Drivers
Step 1: Update Drivers Using Device Manager
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Audio inputs and outputs.
- Right-click your microphone and choose Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
Step 2: Restart Your Computer
- Restart your system after the driver update finishes.
- Allow Windows to fully apply the changes.
Step 3: Re-test Your Microphone
- Open a mic test website and start the microphone test.
- Speak into your microphone.
- Confirm that sound input is detected.
Keeping audio drivers up to date ensures stable microphone performance and prevents compatibility issues.
